6 New Years Resolutions for Healthier Skin

Shockingly, 2020 is just about here. And as 2019 comes to a close, we thought it would be helpful to put together a list of simple, attainable resolutions for healthier skin in the new year. Plus, next year starts an entirely new decade, so all the more reason for a blank-slated, fresh start.

Resolutions are a great way to break bad habits, and in our experience, are most often kept when they’re reasonable. So here is our list of realistic solutions to help better your skin in the new decade:

1. Start Using Retinol

If you’re already using a retinol, nice work. Keep it up! If you’re not, now is the time to start, regardless of your age. Retinoids have been around since the 1970s, and while they were originally formulated to help treat acne, they’ve since become an all-around skin care powerhouse. Even out skin tone, soften fine lines and wrinkles, reverse and repair scarring, boost collagen growth, and the list goes on. Our Retinol Complex .5% contains a proprietary Trans-Epidermal Carrier to maximize the cream’s efficacy. Here is an article with much more information about Retinol.

2. Stop Sleeping in Makeup

We’ve heard it before, and we’ve all done it, and in the busy holiday season, some of us find it happening more frequently. And the truth is, sleeping in makeup every now and again won’t do immediate damage, but Even a quick cleanse before bed will help keep your pores from getting clogged, and you won’t have to catch a glimpse of “slept-in-makeup” the next morning.

3. Wash your Makeup Brushes

Again, a cardinal rule that tends to get broken, but dirty makeup brushes are a major source of breakouts and clogged pores. It won’t take nearly as long as you expect, and your skin will thank you for it. Wet the brush with lukewarm water and massage brush cleaner or soap gently into the tips of the bristles. Rinse with warm water and squeeze out excess moisture with a clean towel or cloth. Reshape the brush head and allow it to dry by hanging the head of the brush off a counter. NOTE: Don’t let them dry on towels, as this can create mildew on the bristles.

4. Don’t Skip Antioxidants

Antioxidants are such an important part of skin care. They neutralize free radicals, brighten skin tone, and slow the aging process. Think of a slice of avocado: if left to sit on a counter alone, it will quickly brown and become mushy. Rub that slice with some lemon (a natural antioxidant) and it will keep its vibrant green hue and retain its firmness and texture. The same goes for your skin. The addition of antioxidants to your routine can help prevent age spots, as well as keep skin from prematurely wrinkling or sagging.

5. Treat Yourself to a Face Mask

Face masks are not only immensely beneficial to your skin, but they’re a simple luxury to help you relax and de-stress. Masks are developed for a myriad of skin concerns, from hydrating dry skin to removing excess oil. But masks are particularly nice because they make you feel pampered, like an at-home spa. Our Pumpkin Enzyme Mask has a gentle warming effect that not only helps relieve tension, but leaves skin smooth and exceptionally soft. In 2020, let a weekly facial mask become part of your routine—you won’t regret it.

6. Sunscreen Every Day

We say it often, but sunscreen is the most important step in skin care. Nothing does more damage to our skin than the sun. It’s vitally important than sunscreen become a daily part of our routine, and not just relegated to beach or pool days. Daily protection can end up taking years off of our appearance later in life, and opting for a sunscreen with broad spectrum protection and anti-aging ingredients can help give your skin the hydrating boost it so often needs.
